Geographically.?... I know it must be northern USA because they are white tails and there's a snowy winter involved.

I think we can make a very vague estimate like you did there, but I don't believe there is anything that tells us where it is set specifically. I'd have to read the book again, as there might be some information in that that I missed when I first read it, but I know that there's nothing in the film.

I'd agree with Number 6. There is no specific location set for the story, for because of its timelessness, it's meant to leave the viewers to consider it taking place in any forest, maybe even one that is close to their home.
I remember doing some research and learned that Walt Disney had sent a photographer out into the state of Maine to shoot some nature footage as a reference for animators to use as a guide as they attempted to understand how animals behaved in nature so that this could be conveyed for all the characters in the film. Also, on the Bambi II DVD with its Trivia Tracks, one piece of trivia states that the log Bambi and the porcupine confront each other on is based on a real log in Maine. Logically, all this could lead to a possibility that both films take place in the state of Maine, but again, location is not mentioned directly for the sake of timelessness.

That would work well for my gallery ideas as I wanted to add a moose in.
